Default Foratting for Custom Object

Hi all,

So I’m trying to update the default default format for a custom object. The only article I’ve been able to find on this is:

I swear there was a new way to do this that was much more streamlined, but my Google-Fu is weaksauce today apparently, because I’ve come up with nothing after two hours.

Can someone point me at the right thingy? With the stuff? And the things!?
